Kyushu Shade is our most exclusive Japanese green tea. A certified organic Gyokuro grown in the high hills of Kyushu, Japan, where traditional shade cultivation transforms the leaf into something rare and deeply nourishing.

Gyokuro is regarded as the highest grade of Japanese green tea. Weeks before harvest, the plants are shaded from direct sunlight. This careful method slows growth and concentrates amino acids such as L-theanine within the leaf, developing the profound umami sweetness and luminous green liquor that define premium Gyokuro.

Organic cultivation of Gyokuro is exceptionally rare. It is a demanding practice with little margin for error. Many attempts fail. To produce organic Gyokuro of this calibre requires patience, experience and deep stewardship of the land. 

The aroma is soft and marine. The palate layered and serene. Silken texture, gentle vegetal sweetness and a sustained umami depth that lingers long after the cup is finished. This is not a brisk green tea. It unfolds slowly.
